Face and neck lifting surgery is designed to restore a more youthful appearance to the cheeks, the jawline and the neck. Any excess fatty tissues are removed and the skin and soft tissues are tightened through incisions around the ear. This is usually performed under a general anesthesia as an out-patient hospital setting. However, the patient may elect to spend the night.
Time in surgery: 2.5 -5 hours
Time off from work: 2 weeks
Are you a candidate?
A facelift is the most comprehensive approach to treating facial wrinkles and sagging caused by aging. This procedure may be right for you if you feel your facial appearance does not reflect your youthful spirit and energy level. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Gumucio.
How is a facelift (rhytidectomy) performed?
Facelift incisions may be placed within the hairline and within natural contours in front of and behind the ears (Figure 1).
A small incision at the chin crease may also be needed.
Skin is then pulled back and the incision closed (Figure 2).
Modified incisions include variations of the "short scar," with shorter incisions around the ear (Figure 3).
