A blepharoplasty is performed to remove excess skin and/or fat of either the upper or lower eyelid. This is most commonly performed as an out-patient hospital setting under general anesthesia. The surgery is intended to provide a crisp upper eyelid fold and a smoothing of the lower eyelid.
Aesthetic eyelid surgery is performed on adults of all ages. Some people have eyelid surgery to correct problems that are a result of aging, while others have inherited traits that cause them to seek treatment as early as their 20s or 30s.
Time in surgery: 45 minutes - 1.5 hours Time off from work: 7-10 days
Are you a Candidate?
Upper eyelid surgery removes folds of skin on the upper eyelids that create hooding or impair vision. Lower eyelid surgery removes puffy under eye bags. While eyelid surgery can be preformed on its own, it is frequently combined with a brow lift, facelift, or other facial rejuvenation procedures to achieve a more uniform, harmonious facial appearance. Dr. Gumucio will evaluate your anatomy thoroughly to determine the causes of your eyelid appearance, and what procedures might best remedy them.
How is Eyelid Surgery performed?
Eyelid surgery incisions follow the natural contour lines of your upper and lower lids (Figure 1). Stitches close the incisions. Incision lines fade and blend into natural creases (Figure 2).
After this procedure, you will appear more rested, refreshed, and alert with a bright-eyed appearance associated with youthfulness.
