Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Loss of skin elasticity, gravity and other factors such as weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding ultimately affect the shape and firmness of your breasts. Patients who are generally satisfied with the size of their breasts can have a breast lift to raise them, resulting in a more youthful breast contour. Some patients may be unhappy that they have lost a significant amount of breast volume over time. In such cases, implants inserted in conjunction with a breast lift can increase breast size at the same time as the shape and position of the breasts are enhanced.

Time in surgery: 2 hours
Time off from work: 7-10 days

Are you a candidate?

A breast lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Gumucio. If you're considering a breast lift, this will give you a basic understanding of the procedure--when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Please ask Dr. Gumucio if there is anything you don't understand about the procedure.

The best candidates for mastopexy are healthy, emotionally-stable women who are realistic about what the surgery can accomplish. The best results are usually achieved in women with small, sagging breasts. Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in heavy breasts.

How is a breast lift procedure performed?

Breast lift, or mastopexy, surgery raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

Different techniques for removing breast skin and reshaping the breast determine the location of the incisions and resulting scars. Dr. Gumucio will select a technique based on your breast size and shape, areola size and position, degree of breast sagging, skin quality and elasticity and how much extra skin you have.

If there is too little or too much breast volume, a breast augmentation or breast reduction might be recommended in addition or instead of to a lift.

The results of  breast lift surgery are immediately visible.  Your breasts will be fuller and more uplifted.  Many patients experience an enhanced self-confidence following this procedure.
